Curriculum

Our Centre’s program is based on The Early Years Learning Framework for Australia (EYLF) that describes a vision of children's learning characterised by Belonging, Being and Becoming.  While the EYLF focuses on children from birth to five years, the Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guideline (QKLF) aims to specifically enrich children's learning in the Kindergarten Year.

The guideline describes a set of five focus learning areas that relate to the five broad learning outcomes and aligned principles identified in the EYLF:

  • children have a strong sense of identity
  • children are connected with and contribute to their world
  • children have a strong sense of wellbeing
  • children are confident and involved learners
  • children are effective communicators.

We are committed to our Kindergarten being a place where children come first and we are all aware of the importance of the early years of education as a foundation for the successful life skills and future learning.

Daily programming is flexible to allow children to develop at their own pace throughout the year.  This division of time is dependent on:

  • the composition of the group
  • the children's energy levels, moods and interests during the day
  • the children's prior knowledge, skills and abilities
  • unexpected or spontaneous events that occur
  • climatic conditions

The program will usually consist of these components:

  • indoor/outdoor learning experiences
  • quiet/active times
  • individual/small group/large group activities
  • care routines and transition times
  • Intentional teaching and spontaneous learning experiences.
